Image 4: Game Over Splash Screen

STEP 1: I opened a new document size 450x450 pixels and set the background colour as black (#000000).

STEP 2: I created a new layer and opened up an existing graphic that I previously created using brushes (with colours ranging from #FDBA6E, #D47A71, #558699, #0E1619, #985E35, #D5EFBF). Sticking with the same layer, I used Diffuse Glow which can be found in the Filter>Distort section of Photoshop. The settings and the end outcome can be found below.

STEP 3: Now to add some stylised text to the image. I added the text 'GAME OVER' in font style Franklin Gothic Heavy, size 59 (the software automatically making a new layer). I decided to add a subtle gradient (the gradient ranging from #F5F3F3 to #FFFFF). Sticking with the same font layer, I used Wind on each edge of the text, the effect can be found in the Filter>Stylised section of Photoshop. The settings and the end outcome can be found below.

STEP 4: I then made a new font layer with the text 'GAME OVER' in font style Franklin Gothic Heavy, size 59. Pretty much exactly the same as Step 3 but without the effects and filters. I placed this layer over the top of the other text 'GAME OVER'.

STEP 5: With this layer still selected, I tinkered with the Blending Options to make the text stand out more from its surroundings aswell as add interest to the overall image. The settings and end product are shown below (the gradient colour ranges from #000000 to #FDFEC1 and the stroke gradient ranges from #00000 to F09B65 to #FDFEC1 back to #000000).

STEP 6: Adding a new layer; to finish off I added my signature to the image using the Brush Tool freehand (colour #FFFFFF).

The image to the left: An image showing the different layers I used for this image.
